When my bf told me he has never been ice skating in his life (he told me that on the way to the rink) I WAS SO SHOCKED. BUT: HE DID NOT FALL (that was because he was clinging to the boards all the time). I WAS VERY PROUD. (the second time we went, he actually let go and tried. random people asked if they could film his f(l)ailing and put it on the internet).
8 HOURS AT SCHOOL OMG. WHY. HOW. WHAT ARE YOU DOING. (now watching a random show about poor people and their problems).
it's so embarassing lmao. all my arguments end up being he/she/they don't deserve to win because he/she/they don't deserve to win
LOL Everyone is always so shocked when I say I've never been ice skating. And there's a rink like 8 miles from my house. IDK I'VE JUST NEVER GONE? also, I'm pretty sure that were I to go, I would be just like your bf. Except maybe minus the NOT FALLING part. Because falling is just inevitable for me.
I HAVEN'T EVEN DONE A THING, GOD IT'S SO BAD. I've already skipped two classes, EVEN THOUGH IT'S THE LAST CLASS BEFORE FINALS. /o\
hahahah yes. HIS/HER NAME IS NOT NICE ENOUGH. NOT PRETTY ENOUGH. ALL THE THINGS THAT DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL SPORT.
but I guess you've been inline skating? or done something similar to ice skating? I've been skating since forever, not regularly, like in kindergarten and elementary school and then I think like once in between then and this year. I thought I'd probably have unlearnt it, but no, EVERYTHING WENT BETTER THAN EXPECTED. (I expected falling all over the place and ALL THE PAIN and possibly losing a finger or two because someone runs over it. ALL THE HORRIBLE THINGS.) I think you should totally go try it! (you can take dimpleface with you. he can catch you when you fall. and then engage in coitus on the ice. well I guess that'd be not too comfortable. and cold. don't actually try that for real.) It's very fun. And you get to drink ~hot wine punch (gluehwein). The thing is: YOU MUST NOT BE AFRAID OF FALLING, DARLING. It does not hurt (much). JUST FUCKING GET ON THE ICE AND DO IT. :D
lucky you, being so close to finals, tho. I still have one month to go :/ which classes did you take?
EXACTLY. WHO EVER HEARD OF A CHAMPION WITHOUT TASSELS.
I've been inline skating! AND I'VE FALLEN ON MY FACE EVERY TIME I'VE BEEN. I think the finger thing is what scares me most. like, I am legit terrified I'm going to fall and someone's going to skate by and cut me in half. /o\
I DO WANT TO TRY IT. It seems so fun and AWESOME but skdhfasld;jf SHARP BLADES EVERYWHERE.
lol CLASSES I WOULD NEVER TAKE AGAIN IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT Quantum Chemistry (never, ever, ever.) Introduction to Biomolecules (which is a total joke.) Ancient East Asian Literature (which is fun, actually) Memory (interesting, fun at times, 65% boring as hell) Chinese III (which, ok, is sort of cheating, BUT STILL. At least now I'm sort of capable of reading and writing! :D)
OH NO! But well, at least ~you've been :D. The finger thing just came to me the last time I was going, but I think I can assure you that the skates you can borrow at the rink are rarely sharp enough to actually cut your finger off XD (bad luck if someone with own skates runs over you).
EW CHEMISTRY. EW EW. Biomolecules, idk. Hmm, I think Literature depends on.. if you like literature. I don't like it, that's why I'm studying Theoretical Linguistics and not American/English Studies XD Memory? What do you do there? And woo~ languages courses are always nice :D
I have: Introduction to Linguistics II (THIS IS THE MOST BORING SHIT EVER. GOD.) Syntax I (I LIKE. <3) Phonology and Phonetics (GTFO MY LIFE YOU STUPID FUCK) Basque II (<333333) Catalan II (....derp. It's like Spanish, but with French, too. It's a zero-effort class.)
3 am news just came on, so I guess I'm trying to sleep. I added you as a friend :D
There is just something about having to balance myself in a line that completely fucks me over. LIKE IN GYMNASTICS, god, I'm so fucking terrified of the beam because I fell off it once while trying to do a cartwheel a;sdkfja;skdf EIGHT YEARS LATER, AND I STILL CAN'T EVEN CLIMB ON ONE WITHOUT GOING ALL @___________@ anyway, I've never had any like, TERRIBLE, TRAUMATIZING experiences with inline skating, luckily. XD I JUST WISH I'D BE ABLE TO STAY UPRIGHT FOR TWO HOURS ON ONE.
Memory's a psych elective where we basically just discuss memory, and do experiments on ourselves because THAT'S THE BEST WAY TO LEARN. :D LOL I SUCK at languages, really. I've taken Spanish I, like, 4 times, and I've never been able to get an A. /o\
I wanted to be a Linguistics major for about two weeks when I started college. AND THEN I REALIZED I SUCK AT LANGUAGES. so we moved on and went with something easier and more numbers-based. Like Chemistry. ugh what was i thinking. FUN FACT: when I was younger, I always thought it was like, a math error, because of the way calculators would go SYNTAX ERROR. but now I know better. :P Phonology and Phonetics?? Like...The sounds? What is Basque? *__* IT SOUNDS COOL Is Catalan a language? *__* I always thought it was like a dialect or something. /IGNORANT
6h later, I am awake; what is my life >.> SO TIRED.
My 5th grade PE teacher forbid me to ever in my life to a cartwheel again after she saw me doing one, because apparently I turn really weirdly and she was scared I break my spine or something. I LIKED. NO MORE OF THAT SHIT! :D I just don't get gymnastics. Why do people do it? It's not even pretty, not even on TV. I don't get it. My traumatic experience was in 3rd grade, we had a substitute teacher for PE, she set the height of the ~uneven bars to the average 4th grader height and I was very very tiny (still am). We had to get on the low one, then do some kind of squat-jump over the high one. Of course I got my feet caught in the top one and fell face first onto the floor. (there was only a thin mat). Since then I have not even gone close such a thing, rather risked an F for not doing it. I also hate the beam, but for no reason, actually. I just don't like it.
Hahaha, I've wanted to be a linguistics major since.. forever. Just before I started university I thought about taking Social Studies, too, but I looked at the lectures and it was too much do not want (it was also on the ugly campus. now I am on the pretty one~). THERE ARE SO MANY NUMBERS BASED THINGS THAT ARE BETTER THAN CHEMISTRY. ACTUALLY ALL THE THINGS ARE BETTER THAN CHEMISTRY. >.> Our calculators had Math Errors and Syntax Errors. I HATED IT THAT IF YOU GOT SYNTAX ERROR, THE WHOLE EQUATION WAS DELETED AND YOU HAD TO PUT IN EVERYTHING AGAIN. GAH. Yes, Phono is the sounds, it is super boring, because there's only so much to say and it's certainly not enough for a whole semester, let alone two (you have to take two of Syntax/Semantics/Phono II. I am not taking Phono II.). Basque is an isolated language that is spoken in the north of Spain and south of France, it has a ton of cases and looks very funny. It sounds very harsh, but I like it. You can't mix it up with other languages because it's not related to anything. So in some kind it's ~similar to Catalan, not language-wise, but its situation; it's an official language in Basque Country and - I think - the European Union. And most people haven't heard of them unless they've studied Spanish or know much about Spain :D Catalan is seen as a language in the European Union (means that stewardesses get extra money if they speak it), same for Gallego. I wouldn't say it's just a dialect because dialects usually don't have a that much different grammar from the ~original language. The words are 80% derivable (?) from Spanish / French. And if you know Spanish grammar, you shouldn't have too many problems. I'd probably call Andalusian a dialect of Spanish, but then I don't know too much about Andalusian. /o\ Spanish learning times is so long ago :(
UGH I'M SO TIRED TOO I JUST WANT TO CURL UP AND SLEEP FOREVER ):
LOL I did gymnastics for like 3 years, and the only thing I've ever been really comfortable with was the uneven bars! XD a;skdfja;ksdf WHY WOULD THEY ONLY GIVE YOU A THIN MAT WHAT omg I'm so sorry, you are supposed to have heavily padded mats that make falling feel like you've just been dropped on a gigantic pillow. D: WHICH IS WHY I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT, I GUESS, because even when I fell it was like NO PROBLEM, BRO, BUT WELP, I THINK THE MAT IS TRYING TO SWALLOW ME. /o\
EVERYTHING IS BETTER THAN CHEMISTRY asldkfjslkdf except like, it is actually interesting when I actually manage to figure shit out, instead of just being like FUCK IT, I'LL JUST MEMORIZE THIS SIX PAGE LONG INTEGRATION BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT ANY OF THIS IS SUPPOSED TO MEAN
...I'd no idea you could even have a class on Phonetics. What do you do in there? I feel so ignorant lmao, I HAD TO GOOGLE BASQUE COUNTRY *g* Are you taking Basque and Catalan for fun?? because they sound like fun, and I'd probably give it a try if I ever got the chance XD
Just came home from bowling, will never invite my bff to come with us again, she totally won all five games. D:<
Idek, the teacher was a huge bitch and we all hated her, and she wasn't even a real teacher, let alone for PE. She was only some kind of random counsellor who works at the school. :/
Phonetics: we transcribe all the words. we make rules for phenomenon like Auslautverhaertung (eg in German, we say "d" at the end of the word as "t"; g - k, b - p,...) and for random languages we don't even know based on examples. And we have to know how and where all the sounds are made. It's really useless.
I have to take two language courses until level II, and I will possibly take more later because WELL FREE LANGUAGE CLASSES.
lol omg BOWLING IS ANOTHER THING WHERE I ALMOST ALWAYS FALL ON MY FACE AT. but that's usually because I forget how slippery the alley is, and I always over step, AND REALLY I'M SURPRISED I HAVEN'T FALLEN INTO THE GUTTER YET.
dude, sounds like my high school math teacher. Who could not do anything higher than basic algebra. /o\
wait, HOW AND WHERE? What, like, the position of the tongue against the teeth must have a pressure of ___ psi in order to produce the ___ sound? *g* also, Auslautverhartung sounds like a mouthful. OH BY THE BY, I took German for a quarter like two years ago. XD My accent was atrocious though, apparently. /o\
I love listening to foreign languages. :D EVERYTHING SOUNDS SO COOL.
Hahaha, I never overstep. I usually stop very very far away from the line – because I am scared of rolling down the alley myself.
No, not that ~exactly how. I mean things like ~voiceless labial plosive. That's what we have to know. And how phonation works and a little bit of physics with that. Auslautverhaertung doesn't even have Auslautverhaertung itself :( Re: accent. There's a dialect in Hesse that says the r like in English. It sounds like a bunch of English speaking people got lost in the countryside. And then started to speak some weird kind of German. But no, it's just a dialect. I guess that the r would be the most problematic sound – it is for me (in English! and Spanish! and German! (my dialect does uvular trill r. ~High German r it's the fricative. my phonetics teacher is fascinated because he can't do that sound. so I get to read out loud all the words that start with r. rrrrrrot. Rrrrrauch.))
strange foreign language music go! Catalan Basque German (and there's always Kraftwerk and random 80s music!)
lol I always picture myself like one of those cartoon characters who forget to let go of the ball? XD IT'S WILL HAPPEN ONE DAY, I JUST KNOW IT.
I CAN'T TRILL MY R'S. my friends always thought it was hilarious because whenever I tried all that came out was like harrrhsdjkfl. My German professor took pity on me for our oral exam and was just like, it's ok. you tried. Das war schlimm. ):
:O I WISH TO BE ABLE TO SOUND LIKE THAT. alas! /o\ aks;djfasdf idk if it's because English is my primary language or what, but EVERYTHING SOUNDS BETTER IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE. EVEN IN BRITISH OR AUSTRALIAN ENGLISH.
That's what I think all the time, too. MY FINGERS WILL GET STUCK AND I WILL DIE. Or something.
So many people can't trill Rs! I can't do the Spanish R. I do all the exercises, but it just won't happen. APPARENTLY YOUR GERMAN TEACHER DID NOT GET THAT YOU WERE JUST TRYING TO FIT INTO RURAL HESSE WITH YOUR PRONOUNCIATION.
Hahaha, I just don't understand BritE. It just... idk. Inception was ok, because it was just ~one at a time. But RocknRolla? I GAVE UP. I WAS LIKE: HELLO PRETTY PEOPLE. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. >.>
Basque is easy, because it's only sounds we do in German, too (besides r); Catalan is okay, but Os get turned to Us and As to schwa. And Ss. Voiceless except for in between vowels. I DO NOT CARE. My teacher used to interrupt and correct me, but he's stopped doing it. EITHER I'M DOING IT RIGHT NOW OR HE'S GIVING UP.
LOL EXACTLY. but ngl, I fucking love bowling. I GET REALLY COMPETITIVE OVER IT TOO. which is totally stupid because I suck at it. XD
ALL I EVER WANTED WAS TO BE UNIQUE. WHY DID HE HAVE TO GO AND CRUSH MY DREAMS LIKE THAT.
oh man, RocknRolla. I only watched a few clips on youtube, but their accents are so heavy it's insane. Tom Hardy though, unnfff ~ boy just never stop talking please ♥ you can speak to me however which way you want
Er, what is schwa? (also, jw, is your twitter name a reference to it? *__* ALSO, WHAT IS YOUR NAME/A NAME I CAN CALL YOU, because I would call you by your twitter name because I like it except I have a really hard time spelling it correctly /o\) LOL oh man, for Spanish, I always forgot that Vs have a sort of B sound and so a lot of the time, I'd just rush my reading so she wouldn't quite catch it. XD
I thought: OK I WILL WATCH THAT MOVIE NOW AND JUST CONCENTRATE ON IT OK. What happened: ?????????????? HEY I THINK I UNDERSTOOD A WORD.... AND ANOTHER.... THAT MAKES ABOUT 10 WORDS OF THE 93024830 THEY'VE SAID SO FAR, FUCK THAT SHIT. ALSO I WAS DISTRACTED BY GERARD AND THARD. IDEK.
You can call me my ~actual first name, Anne :D Schwa would be that thing: ə (who would have thought!) is ~"an unstressed and toneless neutral vowel sound" for example the "e" in "the" (in the ~normal one, not the one before words that start with vowels). And yes, my twitter name is a reference XD And I can't spell it myself. And my ~hint is stupid, too, because I try to remember "there's wasch in it" AND THEN WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT I AM NOT SURE IF IT'S WASH OR WASCH. (my gmail is similarly difficult. I always get that one wrong.) (there is also a-schwa, ɐ, aka vocalized r (the sound used for the ending -er in most German words))
I JUST CAN'T DO THAT IN CATALA BECAUSE THERE'S S EVERYWHERE >.> Every time we take turns reading I check if the part I'm probably going to read has Ss, and if yes, I underline the ones that are voiced XD (and as for the b/v in Spanish, just always say b, that's what most natives do – and then they end up not being able to spell; they spell every v as b and some b as v! XD)
LOL EXACTLY. I'M JUST LIKE THIS MOVIE ILLUSTRATES THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VOICE KINK AND WORD KINK. Word kink = Knowing what the word is and using it correctly in a sentence and being sexy while doing so. Voice kink = whatever it was you said, you sounded really fucking good while doing so :D THARD THOUGH, SOUNDS GOOD IN ANY ACCENT. I MEAN, GOD, HIS VOICE DOES THIS PURRING THING EVERY TIME HE TALKS AND IT'S JUST. SO. GOOD. *___*
ANNE ♥ that is such a pretty name :DD OOOOOH OKAY, I know what that is. I HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS A NAME FOR IT. I just always called that "the upside down e." *_* LOL I always used to spell my email addresses wrong, and so I finally gave in and settled for something that have an atrocious amounts of x's and was a coherent reference to something I liked. :P
LOL when I was younger, I had a friend who just could not say the v sound and so he'd go around calling me Bibian, and I'd be like SERIOUSLY DUDE, IT'S NOT FUNNY ANYMORE. and then he admitted he just always had trouble saying v, and I was like ...oh, I thought you were making fun of me /o\

XD

Date: 2011-06-06 05:31 am (UTC)What happened: ?????????????? HEY I THINK I UNDERSTOOD A WORD.... AND ANOTHER.... THAT MAKES ABOUT 10 WORDS OF THE 93024830 THEY'VE SAID SO FAR, FUCK THAT SHIT.
ALSO I WAS DISTRACTED BY GERARD AND THARD. IDEK.
You can call me my ~actual first name, Anne :D
Schwa would be that thing: ə (who would have thought!) is ~"an unstressed and toneless neutral vowel sound" for example the "e" in "the" (in the ~normal one, not the one before words that start with vowels).
I JUST CAN'T DO THAT IN CATALA BECAUSE THERE'S S EVERYWHERE >.> Every time we take turns reading I check if the part I'm probably going to read has Ss, and if yes, I underline the ones that are voiced XD
(and as for the b/v in Spanish, just always say b, that's what most natives do – and then they end up not being able to spell; they spell every v as b and some b as v! XD)

Date: 2011-06-06 10:02 pm (UTC)ANNE ♥ that is such a pretty name :DD
OOOOOH OKAY, I know what that is.
